1. Reog Ponorogo

Reog ponorogo. This art originating from East Java is often the art that is displayed in important events, such as traditional ceremonies. Recently, Reog Ponorogo was submitted as an intangible cultural heritage to UNESCO. Satisfaction from the audience is mandatory in reog performances, scene after scene is performed beautifully by reog dancers.

2. Sekaten

Sekaten is a cultural acculturation of the entry of Islam in Indonesia which is held at the Solo and Yogyakarta palaces to commemorate the Birthday of the Prophet Muhammad. Sekaten was inaugurated as a UNESCO cultural heritage in 2014 because of its very strong cultural value.

3. Keris

Keris was recognized as one of the world’s cultural heritages by UNESCO on November 25, 2005 as a “Masterpiece of The Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity”. One of the famous types of keris on the island of Java is the Mpu Gandring Keris which is evidence of the history of the establishment of the Singasari Kingdom in Malang, East Java.

4. Wayang

Wayang has been designated by UNESCO as a “Masterpiece of The Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity” or an amazing cultural work in the field of narrative stories and beautiful cultural heritage since November 2003.

5. Gamelan

Gamelan is a traditional musical instrument that has been worldwide. Gamelan has been known since 326 Saka (404 AD) which is depicted on the reliefs of the temple, there is a set of gamelan in the United States National Music Museum and the Paris Museum.

6. Batik

Batik, which was previously only used in the palace, has grown and evolved into a commodity for Indonesia’s creative industries that penetrated the global market. Since 2 October 2009, batik has been recognized as a human heritage of oral culture and intangible culture by UNESCO. One of the worldwide batik motifs is the machete motif which comes from the word “pereng” which means tilted.
